DoC Issues in Law

Iowa Senate Considers Requiring All Prescriptions to be Electronic

The Board of Pharmacy filed the bill as a curb against the abuse of opioids and other controlled substances. However, only 9% of prescriptions currently filled in Iowa are done so electronically. The bill as written would take effect July 1, 2019. Many small, rural hospitals and physician practices would find that to be unattainable. This was one of five bills related to prescription drugs being considered by the subcommittee.

Providers in Iowa need to consider the effects of this bill and notify their state representatives of their position.

Kentucky House Votes to Tax Opioids
to Close Budget Gap

If this also passes the Senate and becomes law, it will set a precident for other states to follow.  Since when is it up to one population of people–the chronic pain patient–to offset government spending?

But the only way to get these kinds of stigmatizing laws out of the legislatures is to teach them the truth–that opioids are not the cause of our current “crisis”–THEY are.
