The FDA has finally looked out of the conventional medicine box and has approved a device based on auriculotherapy. Auriculotherapy is an energetic form of medicine. It uses the ear as a hologram of the body and through placement of needles in the corresponding points, can treat any physical or psychological disorder.
The new apparatus just approved by the FDA—a product of DyAnsys, Inc, a global company headquartered in California—is called Drug Relief®. It is intended to be used by people who have been diagnosed with opioid disorder in the early stage of drug withdrawal as a patient goes through detoxification. It can provide relief from the symptoms of withdrawal including stomach cramps, muscle aches, muscle spasms, pounding heart, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, agitation, depression and insomnia, along with drug cravings.
The apparatus is called a percutaneous electrical nerve field stimulator (PNFS). This misnomer is to probably try to make auricular fit better into the conventional medical model because if they recognized it as energy medicine, we would soon see the end of our pharmaceutical-based allopathy. The unit fits behind the ear, and sends electrical pulses to ear-fitted needles from the auricular neurostimulator. The patient can have continuous treatment for up to 5 days, but reductions in symptoms of opioid withdrawal start within 30 to 60 minutes after treatment starts.
DyAnsys, Inc also has an apparatus for the relief of chronic pain that was approved by the FDA a few years back. I wonder why it hasn’t been brought forward in pain management circles. It is called Primary Relief®, and is an auricular apparatus like Drug Relief®. Patients are monitored with a handheld Primary Relief® Ansiscope which monitors the Autonomic Nervous System, automatically captures measurements and puts them on an electronic patient record. The placement of the electrodes is determined by the Primary Relief Tester®, used to find the best aural stimulation points based on where the patient has been experiencing pain. The Primary Relief Tester® assures physicians and patients that the Primary Relief device is working correctly before application. The placement of Primary Relief takes about ten minutes. Patients continually wear the light, unobtrusive device for four days while they go about their regular activities. A new Primary Relief is applied every week by the healthcare provider. Total treatment typically takes ten to twelve weeks. In addition to being used to treat chronic pain, Primary Relief can be used for post-operative pain therapy.
“This is an important option for patients who have been struggling with pain, and who either don’t want to take medication or have not responded to it,” said Rick Lambert, M.D., Medical Director of Montvale Health Associates. “The (Primary Relief) is easy for patients to use, and there are no negative effects.”
Patients and health care providers can call the company’s toll-free number (1-888-950-4321) for more information on the non-narcotic pain solution.
The explanation of how it works, again, it to satisfy the conventional medical mind, not how it actually works. So now we need doctors to learn how auricular really works, and get familiar with it. I can guarantee that it will only take one experience for doctors to recognize the value of energy medicine. Here is an example of REAL evidence-based medicine:
I used auricular detox to treat nicotine addiction. People came to me with a 30 year history of smoking. I did one 15-minute treatment, placed one semi-permanent needle in the anxiety point for stimulation when needed over the next week, and they were supposed to return for a second set of needles. They didn’t come back because they had stopped smoking, never had a craving, and no longer needed it. That is amazing medicine!
Auricular has been used for years for drug withdrawal in programs that know about it. The NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol was created in the 1970s by Michael Smith. It is the placement of 5 needles in the ears that stimulate detox and symptom relief. The picture to the left shows where the NADA points are. Acupuncture needles are placed in these points for 15 minutes. When I did detox, however, I added two more points, using 7.
DyAnsys, Inc. has partnered with auriculotherapy expert Terry Oleson, Ph.D., to release a new edition of his acclaimed Auriculotherapy Manual. This is the bible for Auriculotherapy. His first book was the one I used in my practice. Dr. Oleson is the expert on auriculotherapy. The new edition, along with posters highlighting auricular stimulation points, is available for purchase. It contains recommended locations for the Primary Relief needles in auriculotherapy treatment protocols to alleviate:
- Musculoskeletal pain disorders
- Internal organ disorders
- Psychological disorders
- Neurological & Immunological disorders
- Substance abuse
Dr. Oleson is founder and president of the Auriculotherapy Certification Institute. He is a psychology professor at Ryokan College and teaches doctoral graduate students at Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine and the American University of Complementary Medicine. Dr. Oleson works with DyAnsys training a worldwide provider base to use auriculotherapy techniques with the Primary Relief. For information, call DyAnsys at 1-888-950-4321 or email [email protected]
