The war we are fighting and trying to end by getting the Controlled Substance Act repealed is not just affecting doctors and pain patients.  Long before the attacks hit us in the early 2000’s, thousands of innocent American citizens were sent to prison to satisfy the DOJ and DEA agendas of job security and promotions.  Here is a report of a case from a friend incarcerated at Carswell Federal Medical Center. This is a prison that is supposed to be treating inmates with medical problems. But having been in the system, I can verify that what this friend reports is true in all prisons.  Medical issues are ignored.

I wanted to share with you all that yesterday I lost another friend.. my heart is heavy and hurting.. she didn’t have to die and she could have lived if she wasn’t here.. she should have been released over a year ago.. and instead she is gone never to see her family again. Martha Perez came to prison for a crime she did not commit had anyone done an ounce of investigation she never would have sat a day.

She put a car in her name for a childhood friend that she then didn’t see for many years after. The friend moved to TX and Martha had never been to Texas before or during the time the friend committed a crime.. Martha was in Mexico burying her deceased brother when this crime occurred. Martha was not arrested until 2 years later ONLY because the car was in her name that was used for the crime of transporting drugs.

Martha was in NO WAY part of this. Spin a good story and a few bought jurors and witnesses and an innocent woman goes to prison for 24 years. The friend could have told the truth and Martha never would have done a day but she thought by sending her friend up river that would get her less time. Instead it got Martha 24 years and the friend 25 years. Justice is failing!

Martha Perez had 5 children when she came in she lost 4 children since the time she has been in and has only 1 surviving daughter. One child had a rare disease in which the head does not grow and stays the same as a baby. But she defied the odds of living past the age of 3 because of Martha Perez’s undying dedication and love to her child whom she sang to everyday and held and comforted. It was her love that kept her child alive. Two months after she came to prison her daughter died. Slowly over the years her other children died, recently her son about 8 months ago.

This woman suffered for a crime she did NOT commit. Martha suffered a lot at the hands of the BOP and their “medical team” first in Tallahassee. She lost her sight in her left eye. When begging for help after a botched surgery she was put in the SHU (solitary confinement) for asking for help. After months of being in the SHU a new woman Warden came and told her if she stops saying she has blood in her eye she will let her out. She tells her “but I have blood in my eye and I can see it. I need help I cannot see now out of my eye.” The warden at Tallahassee told her. “If you are lying you will be back in the SHU for 6 months. Martha said “OK because I am not lying.” They finally took her to a specialist and they learned she had blood in her eye and that it might now be irreversible. This began a series of moving her to different prisons and eventually ending up in Carswell Medical. She was repeatedly told for years they could fix it, later to find out too much time passed and it was irreversible damage. She lost the sight in her left eye for good. In the interim she broke her foot and ankle and was denied an x-ray or care and then it became infected and clubbed in which she lost all use of her foot and was put in a wheelchair.

She then suffered medical neglect and malpractice here that caused her to need dialysis. I learned that an Officer Franco whistle blew on the medical director and others for poisoning the dialysis patients by not replacing things in the dialysis machines that need to be replaced NOT just cleaned. This caused deformities I have NEVER in my life seen in a dialysis patient’s veins that goes beyond words. This is criminal. We may be imprisoned yet we are human. We are mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, grandmothers, that do NOT deserve this kind of cruel treatment and punishment. Enough is enough. This needs to stop and our government needs to step up and stop the madness. This officer was walked off for whistleblowing. He cared enough to put his job on the line. Thank God for men like him.

I want to share this. It needs to be said and told.

Last week on Thursday Martha Perez passed away. She did NOT have to die. She was poisoned by the dialysis machine in which Mr. Franco was told to use used parts of another machine which was cross contaminating the dialysis machine. Also dialysis is to run for 4 hours for completion of the cycle. They have been rushing the process and stopping these women at hour 3 because they don’t have enough machines..

Cross contamination is causing poisoning. That is causing massive heart failure. Mr. Franco reported this to the highest level in Washington then was walked off the premises for having reported it. He did what was right.

Now someone in the High-rise in 2S was just found blue and unresponsive then another in the High-rise having chest pains and then someone on 2nd floor 6th unit just died (dialysis patient). This is serious. Women are dying in droves here that should not be!! This is an 8th amendment violation of cruel and unusual punishment. I know the neglect they have suffered as I have suffered it also at the hands of the BOP. Be a voice.. I will get more details. Enough is enough. We don’t deserve this. They didn’t deserve this. Martha should never have been here and should have been released from this place. BOP brought her back when she got sick at home confinement and was in the hospital that was NO reason to bring her back. Since it was their years of neglect that caught up with her. She would have received better care at home.

Our lives matter and that of those who love us. They should not receive us home in a cardboard box. Humanity is lacking.

Please be a voice!!

We can end this by recognizing what I teach—that drugs are not the cause of addiction—and get the CSA repealed.  But that takes people learning, and they won’t. So who is responsible for these innocent people’s incarceration and death?

Pogo: We have met the enemy and he is us
