On March 24, 2025, I sent the following email to all 435 legislators:

On behalf of all of your constituents being affected by the illegal government attacks on the most compassionate, professional physicians in your state, we, Doctorsofcourage.org, ask you to hear our complaints, share them with your boss, and hopefully Congress will act to end this atrocity.  Doing so will end a lot of problems we are currently having.  I’m happy to explain this to you further if you are interested.

During the Cavanaugh hearings, over and over Senators and Congressmen bemoaned the current state of Congress—that you no longer do what you were elected to do, but allow agencies to determine the laws. One of the greatest failures is in the area of allowing the Department of Justice to misrepresent the law in court in order to confiscate assets of innocent citizens.  This has got to stop, and we ask you to support an investigation into this illegal activity. As a result of this rogue agency’s actions, innocent people are going to prison and innocent citizens are suffering and dying.

As Albert Schweitzer said,

“Pain is a more terrible lord of mankind than even death itself”

So by stopping legitimate pain management by trained professionals, you are forcing your citizens to the street for self-medication, where they most probably will be faced with illegal fentanyl-laced pills, or to committing suicide. Is that really the direction you want your citizens to go?

Here is a list of our concerns and demands:

DOCTORS OF COURAGE (DoC)

 Concerns-

1.       The “Opioid Epidemic” is a fake, government-created situation to falsely blame on legal prescriptions written by physicians in order to confiscate assets through illegal use of the Controlled Substance Act. As a result, innocent citizens are suffering and dying.

  1. The disproportionate and discriminatory over-prosecution of black and other ethnic physicians  of color by the DOJ, DEA, criminal justice system and state medical boards
  2. The alarming increase in the death rate of chronic pain patients, who are opioid non-abusers, through DOJ persecution of treating physicians. This has created an epidemic of suicides, especially by veterans, through physician abandonment and limiting needed medications by pharmacies
  3. The increase in the horrendous death rate of sickle cell anemia chronic pain patients, who are mostly African American. The denial of National Institute of Health (NIH) standard of care treatment guidelines by emergency room and hospital providers, using CDC guidelines to excuse “medical manslaughter” and “black genocide”
  4. The cost of human suffering and loss of quality of life of chronic pain patients, who are opioid non-abusers
  5. Government overreach leading to non-medical government agencies practicing medicine without a license
  6. Violation of Doctors’ Constitutional Rights
    • 4th amendment through illegal search and seizure, use of warrants without just cause.
    • 5th amendment through lack of due process.
    • 6th amendment rights of a speedy and public trial, an impartial jury, the right to be informed of the charges, the right to confront and call witnesses, and the right to an attorney.
    • 14th amendment through loss of property. A doctor’s profession is his property.
  1. Misuse of the forfeiture statute of the CSA

Demands

  1. The investigation of the DOJ by the U.S. Congress for the prosecution of physicians through the illegal application of the Controlled Substance Act.
  2. Doctors that have been charged or convicted based on Title 21, The Controlled Substance Act, be immediately released from prison and exonerated from any federal charges, including Medicare/Medicaid fraud charges, as that is simply a door-opener.
  3. Doctors have their licenses and DEA certificates restored
  4. The CSA be amended or new law written to permanently exempt doctors from charges related to controlled substance prescriptions in words that even US Attorneys can understand.
  5. Remove the actual immunity from prosecutors. If they break the law to convict an innocent person, they should be prosecuted, not protected.
  6. Defendants should have first option of witnesses. The government should not be allowed to declare everyone a government witness and leave the defendant with no one.
  7. Allow doctors who have been denied DEA certification without cause a means of civil action to be remunerated for their loss of their 14thamendment rights.
  8. A search warrant into a doctor’s office must be served with actual charges in mind, based on the criminal standard of actual sale of prescriptions for resale or abuse, not for patient treatment.
  9. Stop asset forfeiture prior to conviction.
  10. Investigate National Data Banks for publishing false allegations against medical professionals. Information should not be public until proven.

I received a reply back from Tom Grahm, MD, a retired neurosurgeon from Tyler, TX, now Pete Sessions’ chief of staff. He asked me to come in for a meeting with Rep. Sessions:

Invitation from Dr. Grahm to visit with Pete Sessions

Even though I asked about doing it virtually due to my husband’s disabilities making travel to Washington difficult, he stated that he would rather have an in-person meeting. So I agreed, and we set the meeting for April 9.  First my husband and I planned on going up together, but eventually he decided to stay at home.  I provided him with meals, snacks, and he was happy.

Bill lying in bed surrounded by food, smiling

I arrived at the Rayburn building around noon on April 9. While waiting for my meeting with Rep Sessions, I visited all of the offices on floors 1, 2, and 3, left my information, and in a few cases actually got to talk with a staffer on the issues. So that made the trip worthwhile.

BUT…..

At 2:00 I was promptly led into the conference room at Rep. Sessions’ office. First, there was a picture-taking session.

Tom Grahm, MD, Jeff Sessions, me, Sloan Hamill

Then we sat down and Rep Sessions began to talk.  He basically talked the entire meeting, all against drugs, specifically cannabis.  He showed the video on Delta 8 THC that you can watch on his FB page HERE on April 9.  He then started repeating the video in his comments.  When there was a break in his conversation, I simply said “I wonder why I was brought here.” He then stopped his harangue, looked at me and Dr. Grahm, and said “Oh, did we invite you here?”  Dr. Grahm nodded.  And Rep Sessions said “I’m sorry. We don’t usually treat guests this way.”  But in my attempt to explain that drugs are not the cause of addiction, he cut me off, shook his head, saying “Yes, they are.”

The meeting ended and I left.

The next day, April 10, I emailed Dr. Grahm and asked him to call me to give me a summary of how he thought the meeting went. Naturally I wanted him to explain what his purpose was in inviting me to Washington for an obvious confrontation with an established anti-drug legislator. He didn’t respond. Congress adjourned for the Spring break, so I waited until they came back on April 28.  I emailed Dr. Grahm again but again, no response.

So my trip to Washington could be considered a complete waste.  But I know that God always has a plan. I prayed before the meeting, and afterward that his plan and purpose for my trip would be fruitful. All I can do is plant seeds. It is up to him to do the watering. I hope, with my face-to-face with all the office receptionists in the Rayburn building, that some seeds were planted.  As for Rep Sessions, since he has been in Washington since the DEA hearing in 1997 and he doesn’t see the cause of the attacks on opioids, he needs to be replaced.  So spread the word through the 17th district of Texas (surrounding Waco), to bring in a democrat that can understand and preach the end of the War on Drugs, and let’s get Rep Sessions replaced.
